As with all online dating markets, the gay hook up scene is flourishing at the moment with record users. We decided to check out MenNation, a popular site operated by one of the major dating networks.

MenNation is known as one of the top hookup sites for homosexuals. It's run by the same company responsibe for major online dating sites such as FriendFrinder and AdultFriendFinder (see our review here) and this is the adult side of their product for the gay market. Incidentally, they also offer GayFriendFinder, which is more of a traditional gay site, aiming to help men meet other men for love rather than the casual fun offered by MN. Having reviewed both sites (you can read our GFF review here), we're pleased to report that these sites don't use the same database fortunately, which we confirmed when we were able to create the exact same profile to test both sites.

MenNation Review: Is It A Good Hookup Site For Gay Men?

MenNation's more adult theme is clear from the start, with the ability to search individuals or couples and a lot of impetus on video (and nudity), particularly in the members area. To register, you have to fill in some basic profile details as part of the sign up, otherwise it's pretty standard – a few quick details about yourself and you're good to go.

There's a lot to see and do within the members area, far more than most sites (gay, straight or otherwise). Searching for single men on the site is very easy, with good filtering options and all available as part of the free trial version of Men Nation. This is a great way to check out guys in your local area without having to pay first – try before you buy, basically!

Gay Chatroom On MenNation

There's a busy chatroom built into the site too, where men can chat together with other men and discuss anything on their minds. Moreover, there's the ability to make video broadcasts in exchange for 'tips' which can be used for site upgrades and even earning real money. This is very unusual for an online dating site but definitely promotes a vibrant hub of activity inside the site's video area, where men show off their 'goods' to other guys in the hope of bringing a combination of attention and opportunities for sex.

There's a rather large Community section which contains a lot of user generated content and other information, from help using the site to general sex or relationship advice.

Some More Stuff To See

We noticed during our review of the site that the Member Blogs had some female posts, and the Sex Academy included female focused tips and tricks, so it looks like the community area is probably shared with other sites in the Friend Finder network. The good news is that this is not the case for the other sections of the site and it just seems to be the written content that is shared, as when we visited the Live Cams and Search for our review, the results we only of male users.

One of the things that impressed us most when we tried MenNation was the ability to search in so many different ways. As well as the aforementioned standard search (the typical age, location, etc), there are other options such as Hot or Not (which, as it sounds, is a Tinder-style “yes” or “no”

based search where you judge the person by looks alone) or the Kink Search (which lets you filter your search of male members by choosing a category of fetish that they are into).

Is MenNation Worth Joining? Our Conlusion

If you're a gay male looking for something casual and with no strings attached (NSA) then you could do a lot worse than this site. We'd certainly rank it up there with the best gay hookup sites on the internet and other than a very small amount of irrelevant content, it's good to see a comprehensive and innovating adult dating site that caters solely for the homosexual market.

As with any site we recommend, it's worth remembering that joining one dating site for life is unlikely to get you laid very often! The key to succeeding with hookup dating is to ensure you have a variety of options and opportunities at any given time. The best way to provide this is to try 2-3 sites at a time until you discover a winning casual sex combination! Good luck, guys!
