Plenty Of Fish (POF.com) review 2024

6.5

POF.com

POF.com trade on that old adage that there are 'plenty of fish in the sea'. We decided to look out our waders and see what their pond had to offer.

Is POF Really Free To Use? Read Our POF Review

POF (see also Plentyoffish.com) have been around for a long time. They were one of the original sites to offer all of the features of a paid dating site, but for free. Recently they were bought over by the same company that own Match (read our Match review here), underlining their success in the market. It's well known in the industry that their founder actually met his wife on the site, a nice story that doesn't hurt their marketing efforts either.

The site makes money mainly through advertising (you can even see their competitors being advertised) and through small upgrades (e.g highlighting your profile in searches) and other optional micropayments. For the sake of this review, we looked at both the main site and the POF app, which is available on both Android and iOS.

The main website is not the most attractive dating interface you'll see, let's get that out of the way. Nevertheless, there's no denying that it's busy – hardly surprising given that most features on the site are completely free to use, including most forms of communication (back and forth). The on-site advertising is plentiful but not intrusive, and actually, even the best subscription based dating websites tend to have some advertising. The popularity of the site is therefore worth the trade off and you can get speaking to other members in no time at all.

Go For The Dating Site Or The Dating App?

The app is a lot better and we would recommend this as the way to go in order to get the most out of your dating experience on POF. It's far more modern and you can chat to singles just as easily with the added benefit of push notifications, so you don't miss anything in the way of new matches or message replies. There's the ability to run standard searches or go through the 'hot or not' style of searching, where you flick through member images Tinder style (see our Tinder review here). There's also a nice 'Chemistry Test', which aims to match users based on personality (also free).

After completing our research for this dating site review, we had to ask ourselves why POF isn't seen as the number one website for singles looking for love, even taking into account the old fashioned look of the site. If you use the app, it's super easy and completely free to do everything you need to do. It's busy, vibrant and fun – and that goes for all of the locations where we tested it. The only answer we could come up with is what we like to call the perception of quality factor. What we mean by this is when someone decides to join a paid rather than a free dating site, they normally do so because they believe that the standard of single people online will be of a higher quality (i.e genuinely looking for a long term, loving relationship over, say, a one night stand). There's an opinion held by some, that if someone pays money on an internet dating site then they must be serious, and therefore using a free site to find something meaningful will be a waste of time. Of course, there is no way to determine whether this is true or not and it comes down to personal preference. But we can say from this review of POF that there are genuine members that are serious about finding love on this online dating site, some even say as much in their profiles.

Our Conclusion: Is POF A Good Dating Site / App?

POF is not the sleekest dating site on the internet, that's for sure. It doesn't have the widest variety of dating features and functionality either. It's free and open to anyone over 18, and therefore doesn't have the perception of quality that some people feel is key to finding a serious relationship online. However, despite these things, we would definitely urge single daters to give it a try. After all, it won't cost you anything but time and, if nothing else, would be a great additional option to compliment the dating sites you use as a subscriber (we always recommend that you should use multiple dating sites to give yourself the best chance of success).

To conclude, PlentyofFish.com is a great option for your online dating needs and with its recent acquisition to the biggest dating network on the planet, we predict their pond will continue to be an ideal place to cast your net. Happy fishing!

Usually we recommend you use multiple sites  to keep yourself busy and increase your chances of finding regular dates online. Also check out other dating sites such as Match.com or Mingle2day as well as several dating apps.

    waste of time

    Review:

You will spend an hour filling up lengthy stupid questionnaires and then few hours later your profile is deleted for no obvious reason, no email, no explanation. They are just collecting information for marketing companies. Stay away from them!

    it sucks big ones

    Review:

when i first came to the site there were 2 contacts to me within minutes. i read their profiles and wasn't interested. so i moved on. reading profiles, checking out the pics etc. well, those first 2 were the only 2 who sent me a message. i was curious to see what they wrote, so i bought a membership. guess what? no messages were to be found. go figure. so, my next step was this: i contacted about 3 women randomly, being very polite, simply asking them to respond to let me know that they got the message from me. well, i soon discover that these women don't accept messages from guys my age (and they were in their forties), i mean WTF? so i then contacted POF to ask someone to let me know where the cancellation button was. i asked them to respond. of course, did they? NO Effing way! now i'm pissed. im going to try get my money back. but if i dont, i will be worth it just to cost them as many customers as possible. PEOPLE DO NOT JOIN THIS SITE AND PAY MONEY. Its a rip off!!!!!

    POF definite scam

    Review:

POF used to be an excellent website back in the day,I had met many girls before. Now the site is complete BS,Match.com bought out POF,that says a lot about them, everytime I get messages,I cannot respond, they want me to upgrade to even see a picture of the person, anyhow,I know most messages on here are a scam, because like other scam sites;when your on their website, all of a sudden you get many messages, but when your not on their site, you might get one in two weeks.I know that they have employees who sit at a computer and message people who are online with fake profiles, in order to "fish"(no pun) for potential customers(upgrade) in order to read your "so called" messages.Do not give money to this site,POF is not free, and worse, they are lying to you to try to get your money, just like many other sites do.Match.com ruined POF,So I would never trust them either!!!!!!

    Scaaaaaaam!

    Review:

It's a scam! Your password stops working for no reason within a few days and the recovery system does not work -email reset never ever sends. However your profile remains active and PoF uses your information and photos as so they please, including posting them on other websites!! There is no way to contact customer service on the site, no phone number or contact form or chat. That explain why 200 out of 250 profiles returns on a search are repeated! Folks get kicked out and create another profile using another email. So provably their actual users are about 15%-20% of what PoF tells/advertises to users and con advertisers to raise their ad prices.

    Used to be legit

    Review:

Pof used to be legit. I've met a couple fun women on the site in the past. Now it's a computer generated response machine. Not all but most. Best way to meet someone is in person. No games that way. If you're looking to just get you're rocket polished, POF may get you there, it may not.

    Nope

    Review:

I think whoever wrote this article is being paid by POF for endorsement. The truth is that the site is 99% bullshit profiles (done so poorly that you can immediately spot them ) Plenty of fish is like a public bathroom with nobody ever coming around to clean it. Don't be so desperate as to allow yourself to be braindead.

    ZERO Stars!!!

    Review:

Completely fake. 99.9% of the profiles are fake. Bots set up to entice you to pay for a membership. You'll continue getting these blurred out messages you can't read from beautiful women. All messages are from beautiful women, ALL of them. Once you pay you so you can read the messages, they're nothing important and you no longer receive any messages except for the occasional one from management telling you to upgrade your membership. So that your profile will be more noticeable. It's set up to hook you and have you pay for a membership. That's all. Not a real dating site. Common sense tells you that a woman that is not so attractive can still get a man, and even an unattractive woman can get laid anytime she wants. So why in the world would they be on this site? They can go literally anywhere and find a man. Use your heads guys. The head with the brain. Go to a real dating site. POF is not one of them.

    Review:

I think most single people who use online dating to look for love have tried POF so I guess the people reading these reviews and comments will be new to the dating game. POF is a great place to get started, it's packed full of people and thanks to that you learn fast how everything works. It is easier than most places to find dates because of the amount of members, particularly in cities and built up areas (I've tried it in london and brum- had no problem finding several dates in both places). Give it a shot, the free thing helps of course but if you can afford it then I'd actually recommend trying some of the paid features like boosting your profile now and again. Good luck!

    Good Dating Site

    Review:

I like that you can add lots of pics and even run a personality test to see who your top matches are (although I've never found that very reliable mind you). People on POF can be hard to engage in serious conversation and often try to get you onto whatsapp or viber. You get people looking for casual /no commitment but also you get people who do really want to find a meaningful relationship. You can usually tell by what they write on their profile. There are time wasters but every site has them. I dont see why a free site is any worse than a paying site, personally I use both.

    B+

    Review:

One word: excellent. I've had a lot of dates on this site and actually, my longest relationship came from here. The fact I came back after we split up says it all for me. When im single I trust this site to find me a relationship or at the very least let me get meeting new people and feeling good about myself again. That was more than one word but what can I say? I'm a fan :-)

    Prob the best free site

    Review:

I dont see the point in paying for dating online when I can use the POF app. Does everything you need from a date site so no complaints here.
